When being “inclusive” becomes offensive
We are finalizing our goals for the year at work and they are based on a series of objectives ranging from personal performance to corporate performance.
I was on instant messenger with a co-worker in Portland and she pointed out this winner:
Build and leverage a diverse and inclusive environment
Representation:
Maintain diverse representation (People of color and women) from 12/31/2011 baseline.
Applicant Pools:
Increase diversity in talent pools (People of color and women) for management roles to ensure a minimum of one qualified person of color and qualified female candidate before proceeding at least 85% of the time before the position is filled.
She’s African American and her response to that one was “Nailed it!”
I mean… do I work in 1966 or something? How is this relevant?
